Vanagear

guide ยท Server guide

Vanagear is the Vanadreams gear addon. It reads what you carry, builds gear sets for your job and level, and swaps them for you as you fight, cast and stand around. It also runs commands you write yourself, and it gears your trusts from your own bags.

Where: the launcher's Addons page. How: tick vanagear, press Save, then Play. In game, type /vg.

The current version is 0.1.19. The launcher brings vanagear up to date by itself when it starts.

Vanagear is built on LuAshitacast by ThornyFFXI and replaces it. Your LuAshitacast profiles keep working inside vanagear, /lac commands included. Don't tick the separate luashitacast addon as well (see Tips and limits).

Getting started

- Tick vanagear on the launcher's Addons page and log in.
- Zone in and stand still for a moment. Vanagear waits until you have been standing in the zone for 10 seconds before it builds or swaps anything.
- Type /vg. The window opens on Your sets, already filled in from your inventory and wardrobes.
- Type /vg help for the commands that mean something for the job you are on.

That's all you need. Everything below is for when you want to change what it does.

How vanagear picks your gear

- It reads your inventory and all eight wardrobes. Gear in your Mog Safe, Storage, Locker, Satchel, Sack or Case is never put in a set, because you can't equip from there.
- It only uses gear your job, level and race can wear.
- Every set has a list of what it values (accuracy, Store TP, cure potency and so on) and caps for what gear can usefully give. Once a set reaches 25% gear haste or -50% damage taken, the next slot goes to something else.
- It rebuilds by itself, quietly, when you change job, support job or level, change weapons, and every time you zone. Gear you picked up or moved counts from your next zone. /vg build rebuilds right away and says so.
- Anything you put on yourself from the equipment menu stays on until you zone (a Job Points cape isn't swapped back off).

Feature breakdown

The window (/vg)

The top line shows your job and level and the time the sets were built. Below it are the tabs:

Tab | What it's for |
Your sets | Every set built for your job, the piece in each slot, and your own changes. |
Your commands | Make, run, change and delete your own commands. |
How to | A guide to command lines, chains, your sets in a command, and LuAshitacast profiles in Lua. |
One tab per trust | One for each trust of yours that is out: its gear sets and what it uses. |

The bar at the bottom has a name box, New set and Dress. On a trust's tab it has New set for <trust> and Send all again instead.

Your sets tab

- The list on the left has every set built for you: Idle, Resting, Dt (damage taken), Movement, Engaged and its hybrid and accuracy versions, Precast, a set for each weapon skill your weapon can use, ability sets, and more, depending on your job. Under Your spells is a set for every spell you have learned and can cast now, from your main or support job.
- The right side shows the selected set's 16 slots. Each slot is a list:
- Built: <piece> gives the slot back to vanagear's pick.
- Nothing (take it off) leaves the slot empty in that set.
- Every piece you carry that fits the slot, including your support job's gear.
- A piece you picked is marked *. A green +number beside a built slot is how much that piece added to the set; hover over it to see the three pieces behind it.
- Lock my look to this set (above the slots): your appearance stays on this set while the swaps go on underneath, unseen. It is kept per job and put back after every rebuild and zone. Untick it, or type /vg look off, to unlock.
- Wear it puts the set on and keeps it on until /vg wear off.
- Take what I wear fills the set from what you have on now.
- Undo my changes (a built set) puts it back to vanagear's picks. Delete this set removes a set of your own.

Weapons

With /vg weapons off (the default) vanagear never changes your Main, Sub or Range, because a swap costs TP. On the Your sets tab those three slots are each one list for the whole job, marked every set:

- Leave it alone: vanagear doesn't touch the slot.
- Nothing (take it off), or a weapon you carry: worn in every set for that job.

/vg weapons on lets vanagear choose your weapons along with everything else.

Built-in swaps

Vanagear puts these on for you, with no command:

- Engaged while you fight, Idle while you don't, Resting while you rest.
- Idle_Regen when your HP is below 60%, Idle_Refresh when your MP is below 70%, Movement while you walk.
- Precast as a spell starts, then the set for its kind of magic and the set for that spell as it goes off. A healer's Cure gets Cure_Precast; a Bard's song gets Song_Precast.
- A weapon skill's own set as you use it (for example SavageBlade), else Ws_Default.
- A job ability's own set as you use it (for example BloodRage), when vanagear knows what the ability reads from gear. Beastmaster's Ready, Reward, Charm and Call Beast, Corsair's rolls and Quick Draw, and Summoner's blood pacts have their own sets.
- Preshot and Midshot for ranged attacks.
- Pet sets for pet jobs while your pet fights or uses a move.
- Hachirin-no-Obi, if you carry it, on a nuke that matches the day or weather.

A slot you picked yourself in Idle holds against Movement, Idle_Regen and Idle_Refresh when they go on by themselves, and the same for Resting. If you also picked that slot in the Movement, Idle_Regen or Idle_Refresh set, that pick wins. A set for an action (a spell, ability or weapon skill) still goes on over everything.

Modes and overlays

These are switches you flip in chat. They last until you change them or reload vanagear.

Command | What it does |
/vg dt | Damage taken gear over everything, on or off. |
/vg kite | Movement gear over everything, on or off. |
/vg th | Treasure Hunter gear over everything, on or off. |
/vg tp default / hybrid / acc | Which Engaged set you fight in. With no word it goes to the next one. |
/vg idle auto / regen / refresh / speed | What you stand in. auto is the low-HP and low-MP rule above. |
/vg nuke power / acc | Damage or accuracy for nukes and enfeebles. With no word it switches. |
/vg burst | Magic burst gear on nukes, on or off. |
/vg stage | Precast gear, then safety gear while casting, then the spell's gear just before it lands. |
/vg pet tp / dt / acc | What your gear does for your pet while it fights. |

Any on/off switch with no word flips.

Gear you use from the slot

Rings and earrings you use (Warp Ring, Capacity Ring, the Dimensional Rings and the like) each get a word. /vg <word> puts the piece on, waits out its equip delay, uses it, then gives the slot back to your sets.

Word | Piece |
xp | Empress Band, Emperor Band, Chariot Band, Kupofried's Ring, Resolution Ring |
cp | Capacity Ring, Trizek Ring |
vocation, tav | Vocation Ring, Tavnazian Ring |
holla, dem, mea | the Dimensional Rings |
anything else | the first word of its name: Warp Ring is /vg warp |

/vg help lists the words for the pieces you carry.

Beastmaster

- /vg call <jug> puts the jug in your ammo slot and uses Call Beast. Part of the name is enough (/vg call fizzy). With no jug it calls the last one you called.
- /vg loyal <jug> does the same with Bestial Loyalty.
- /vg reward [food] puts the pet food in and uses Reward. Use the food's name (alpha to theta), roborant, poultice, or debuff (Pet Roborant, else Pet Poultice). With no food it uses the best biscuit for your level.
- /vg jugs and /vg foods list what you carry.

Help with your gear

- /vg status: whether the zone wait is still on, which profile runs, how many sets were built from how many pieces, and any piece a set named that you don't carry.
- /vg why <set> <slot>: the piece that won the slot and the three behind it, for example /vg why Tp_Default Ring1.
- /vg upgrades: pieces in your Mog Safe or Storage that would win a slot. Those bags can only be read in your Mog House or near a Nomad Moogle.
