Vanafish

guide ยท Server guide

Vanafish is the Vanadreams fishing addon. It casts for you, waits for the bite, decides whether to keep or release what bit, ends the fight at the moment the server wants it, and casts again. It stops by itself when something needs you: a full bag, no bait, a tell, a zone change.

Where: the launcher's Addons page, and the launcher's Fishing page for its catch log. How: select vanafish, press Install, tick it, press Save, then Play. In game, type /vanafish.

The current version is 0.1.4. The launcher updates it for you when you press Play.

Getting started

- In the launcher, open Addons, select vanafish and press Install. Tick it and press Save. (The Fishing page has the same tick box, Load the fishing addon at startup.)
- Press Play and log in. The chat log says [vanafish] loaded and the window opens.
- Walk to a fishing spot. Equip a fishing rod in the ranged slot and bait in the ammo slot.
- Press Start fishing in the window, or type /vanafish start.
- Stand still. The window shows what the bot is doing and counts every cast, bite and catch.
- Press Stop (or type /vanafish stop) when you want to take over.

The bot fishes from where you stand when you press Start. Move more than 2 yalms from that spot and it stops.

The window

The window is called Vanadreams fishing. Open or close it with /vanafish.

Part | What it shows |
Start fishing / Stop | Starts or stops the bot. Beside it, its state: idle, casting, waiting for a bite, hooked, ending the fight, resolving, cooldown or stopped. After a stop, the reason is shown, and a timer counts down the state's time limit. |
Rod and Bait | What you have equipped now. |
Rod / Bait / lure drop-downs | Every rod, and every bait or lure, in your inventory and Wardrobes 1 to 4, best first. The first on the list is marked [best]. Pick one to equip it. |
Skill, Free slots | Your fishing skill in whole points, and your free inventory slots. |
Counters | Casts, Bites, Catches, Releases, Lost, Breaks, Nothing, Skill-ups. |
Last bite | The size of the last bite, the feeling the game gave, and the fish's stamina, time limit and recovery. |
Last | The result of the last cast. |
What to keep, Timing, Stop when | Three folding sections with every setting. |

Settings are saved for each character the moment you change them.

In the launcher

The launcher's Fishing page shows the addon's Catch log: your latest 500 results, each with its time, the result (catch, release, lost, break, nothing or skill-up), what it was, the kind of bite and the feeling. Above the settings notes it totals your catches, lost fish and skill-ups, and names your three most-caught fish. Open catch log folder opens the folder the log is kept in. The log is a plain text table you can open in a spreadsheet.

What the bot does, step by step

- Casts with /fish.
- Waits for the bite. The game runs its own bite timer. When a fish bites, the server sends the fish's stamina and time limit.
- Reads the bite. The chat line tells it what bit, and the feeling line tells it how the fight is likely to go.
- Decides to keep or release, by your rules (below).
- Waits your reel delay, then ends the fight. Keeping a fish sends the server the finished fight; the server then runs its catch roll. Releasing gives up the fight.
- Waits between casts, then casts again.

The reel delay is a random time between your minimum and maximum, and never later than 3 seconds before the fish's own time limit.

What each bite means

Chat line | Bite |
Something caught the hook! | Small fish |
Something caught the hook!!! | Large fish |
You feel something pulling at your line | Item |
Something clamps onto your line | Monster |

What the feeling means

Feeling | Meaning |
Good feeling | Nothing is working against you. |
Bad feeling | The fish is tougher than your rod handles. The chance of a snapped line or broken rod is under 45%. |
Terrible feeling | The same, and the chance is 30% or more. A chance of 45% or more is always terrible. |
Not sure you have the skill, or you don't have the skill | The fish is above your fishing skill. |
Angler's sense | The game's Keen Angler's Sense message. The bot keeps the fish under your normal rules. |

Settings

What to keep

Setting | Default | What it does |
Small fish | on | Keep small-fish bites. |
Large fish | on | Keep large-fish bites. |
Items | on | Keep item bites. |
Monsters | off | Keep monster bites. A monster you do not keep is released. |
Release when you don't have the skill | on | Release any bite whose feeling says you lack the skill, or are not sure you have it. |
Release anyway, % of bites | 0 | A share of the bites you would keep, from 0 to 50%, released anyway. |

Releasing a fish costs the bait, as giving up does in game. A lure is kept.

Timing

Setting | Default | Range |
Reel after, min s | 4 | 2 to 60 |
Reel after, max s | 12 | 2 to 60 |
Between casts, min s | 6 | 5 to 60 |
Between casts, max s | 10 | 5 to 120 |

The server allows one cast every 5 seconds, so 5 is the lowest delay between casts.

Stop when

Setting | Default | What it does |
Auto-equip next rod or bait | on | See below. |
Free slots at or below | 1 | Stops when your inventory is down to this many free slots (0 to 10). |
A tell arrives | on | Stops when you receive a tell. |
You move | on | Stops when you move more than 2 yalms from where you started. |
Casts | 0 | Stops after this many casts. 0 is no limit. |
Minutes | 0 | Stops after this many minutes. 0 is no limit. |
Skill reaches | 0 | Stops when your fishing skill reaches this whole number. 0 is no target. |
Nothing bites, in a row | 15 | Stops after this many casts in a row that caught nothing. 0 turns it off. A bite resets the count. |
Command when stopped | empty | A game command to run when the bot stops itself, for example /echo fishing stopped. |

It also stops when you zone, when you log out, when the server says the bag is full, when you have no rod equipped, when you are out of bait, and when you unload the addon.

Rod and bait recovery

With Auto-equip next rod or bait on, a rod that breaks or bait that runs out is replaced from your inventory and Wardrobes 1 to 4, and fishing carries on. The bot cannot equip from Satchel, Sack, Case, Storage or the Mog Safe, so keep spares in the inventory or a wardrobe.

It picks the best rod by this order, best first:
18 items: - Judges Rod
- Ebisu Fishing Rod +1
- Ebisu Fishing Rod
- Lu Shang's Fishing Rod +1
- Lu Shang's Fishing Rod
- Composite Fishing Rod
- Mithran Fishing Rod
- Single Hook Fishing Rod
- Clothespole
- Halcyon Rod
- Glass Fiber Fishing Rod
- Carbon Fishing Rod
- Hume Fishing Rod
- Tarutaru Fishing Rod
- Fastwater Fishing Rod
- Bamboo Fishing Rod
- Yew Fishing Rod
- Willow Fishing Rod

The Maze Monger Fishing Rod and the Goldfish Basket belong to their own games and come last.

For bait it picks bait that is used up first, the biggest stack first, then lures. With the setting off, the bot stops with no rod equipped or out of bait instead.

Skill-ups

Set Skill reaches to the skill you want and the bot fishes until you get there. The window shows your skill in whole points and the Skill-ups counter counts each skill-up message.

How the server decides a skill-up:

- It rolls once for each fish you keep, small or large. Items and monsters never give skill-ups. A fish you release gives none.
- The fish has to be a higher level than your fishing skill, and no more than 50 levels above it.
- The chance is best for fish about 11 levels above your skill, and falls away on either side. Vanadreams doubles the skill-up chance.
- Most skill-ups are 0.1. A lucky roll can give up to 0.3 when the fish is far above your skill.
- Fishing outside a city, and fishing under skill 50, both help.
- A Pelican Ring gives extra skill-up rolls on every fish you keep.

You do not need Fishermen's Guild rank-ups to keep levelling. Only the normal fishing skill cap applies.

For the first levels, keep the fish and release nothing. Once your skill is above a f [cut off]
