Wearing your support job's gear

guide ยท Server guide

On Vanadreams your main job can wear the weapons and armour that your support job can wear. A Black Mage with Warrior support can swing a great axe; a White Mage with Paladin support can wear Paladin armour and carry a Paladin shield.

How it works

- Any piece your main job or your support job can wear is allowed.
- The item's level requirement is still checked against your main job's level.
- Race-only gear stays race-only.
- If you change or lose your support job (changing jobs at your Mog House, a support-job restriction in a battlefield, Obliviscence), anything only the support job could wear comes off.

Skill from borrowed weapons

When a weapon type comes from your support job, your skill in it caps at 80% of the support job's skill cap at your main job's level. If your main job already has a higher cap in that weapon, your own cap is used.

- This covers melee weapons, Archery, Marksmanship, Throwing and Shield.
- You skill these up normally by fighting, up to the 80% cap.
- Weapon skills unlock from your skill level as usual. Support-job weapon skills that are main-job-only stay locked.
- Fighting barehanded counts too: hand-to-hand skill that comes only from your support job (for example BLM/MNK) also caps at 80%.

Putting the gear on

Support-job gear is worn through your own vanagear sets (vanagear 0.1.7 or later, on by default in the launcher). The game's equipment menu and vanagear's built sets only use your main job's gear.

- Type /vg and open one of your own sets (or make one with New set). Each slot's list also offers your support job's pieces. Pick one and it is saved in that set.
- Or from chat: /vg set Axe Main Great Axe, then /vg wear Axe (until /vg wear off).

- To use it for one action, name the set after it: a set called Shield Break (or a spell or ability name) goes on for that weapon skill, spell or ability and comes off after. Or use /vg with <set> <command>, for example /vg with Axe /ws "Shield Break" <t>.

Once it is on, it shows in your equipment window like any other piece.
