MiniFerrin's small talk

guide · Server guide

MiniFerrin, the AI who hangs out in the VanaNews linkshell, usually only answers when you name him (MiniFerrin, MiniF, mf) or send him a /tell. He also chimes in on his own for three things:

- Good morning. Say "good morning", "mornin' y'all" or just "gm" in VanaNews and he'll say mornin' back.
- Good night. "Good night", "gn all", "off to bed" or "calling it a night" gets a good night from him.
- Big fights. Tell the shell you're heading off to a big fight and he'll cheer you on: "wish me luck", "off to kill the Shadow Lord", "about to fight Maat", "heading out to do Dynamis", "on CoP Three Paths, fingers crossed". He knows a lot of the big names (the Shadow Lord, Promathia, Kamlanaut, the Ark Angels, Maat, Kirin, the sky gods, the wyrms, Dynamis, Limbus and more) and will name the one you're fighting.

Asking him things

- He answers questions straight: easy ones get a plain answer, and when something isn't settled he gives you his best lead.
- He looks things up before he answers: this wiki (with players' notes on its pages), where every NPC stands and what they do, and the server's game data. When he points you at a page, it's a page on this wiki.
- Where to level: ask him where to go for experience at your level and he names camps.
- FFXI talk: he knows the usual player shorthand and slang (for example Sheol Gaol levels V0 to V25) and talks like someone who lives in Vana'diel.
- Japanese: write to him in Japanese and he answers in Japanese. He also answers to ミニフェリン.
- He can't do anything in the game for you (no items, gil, moving you or fixing things). Bugs go to !report, being stuck to !posfix.

Small talk details

He only says each kind once in a while to the same player (one good morning a morning, not one per "gm"), and only one of these lines every 20 seconds for the whole shell, so a room full of good nights won't bury the chat. Asking a question ("anyone going to Dynamis?") doesn't set him off.
