Epiphany (Rune Fencer Empyrean Armor)

guide ยท Server guide

Epiphany is the Rune Fencer quest that unlocks the Erilaz empyrean armor. Octavernost of the Inventors' Coalition needs a rune fencer to help Amchuchu finish a new kind of rune fencer gear. You fight one of three Arcus Blades, earn the Erilaz Surcoat, and can then have every other Erilaz piece made.

Requirements

- Rune Fencer as your main job, level 99.
- At least one piece of Futhark armor (head, body, hands, legs or feet, any grade from NQ to +4). It can be in any bag, your Mog House storage or your wardrobes.

Walkthrough

- Western Adoulin (K-9), Big Bridge: talk to Octavernost and agree to help.
- Outer Ra'Kaznar: go to the Meeting Point in the large room right by the entrance, as a Rune Fencer (coordinates -102, -178, 12). Mikolulu gives you the key item Refined Ra'Kaznar Fiber.
- Western Adoulin (K-9): report to Octavernost. Pick one of three iridal cores:

Key item | Where to use it | Arcus Blades level |
Iridal Core of the Tomb | Hazy Rune, King Ranperre's Tomb (-260, 6, -134) | 109 |
Iridal Core of the Ruins | Hazy Rune, Fei'Yin (-106, -17, 220) | 125 |
Iridal Core of the Pass | Hazy Rune, Ranguemont Pass (-260, -47, 306) | 135 |

If you lose your core or want a different one, talk to Octavernost again.

- Hazy Rune: check the rune with the matching core to call Arcus Blades (see the fight notes below). Defeat it to get the key item Arcus Fiber. The core is used up.
- Western Adoulin (K-9): show the fiber to Octavernost.
- Western Adoulin (J-10): take it to Amchuchu's Laboratory in the Inventors' Coalition.
- Wait until the next Vana'diel day, then talk to Octavernost to receive the Erilaz Surcoat.

Arcus Blades

- An animated great sword that casts Dispelga and single-target elemental nukes (tier IV to VI of every element). It has low HP, so the fight is about burst damage and staying alive through the nukes.
- You claim it as soon as it appears. Only one Arcus Blades can be out in each zone at a time. If someone else's is already up, wait for that fight to end.
- It leaves if everyone fighting it dies or runs off, or if it is left alone for about three minutes. Your core is only used up when it dies, so you can try again.
- Party members who also hold that zone's core get credit from the same kill.
- Defeating the Ranguemont Pass blade (Lv.135) earns the title Sword Saint.
- Once the quest is done, Octavernost hands out a new core once per conquest week if you want a rematch.

Rewards

- Erilaz Surcoat
- 15,000 experience points
- Title Sword Saint (Ranguemont Pass fight only)

Forging Erilaz armor

Once the quest is done, trade Octavernost one of these sets. You get an order slip key item, and the piece is ready from the next Vana'diel day. Talk to him then to collect it. He takes one order at a time.

Piece | Materials | Or High-Purity Bayld |
Erilaz Galea | Isgebind's Heart, Molybdenum Ingot, Molybdenum Ore | 15 |
Erilaz Surcoat | Isgebind's Heart, Square of Galateia, Molybdenum Ingot | 30 |
Erilaz Gauntlets | Isgebind's Heart, Flocon-de-mer, Cerberus Hide | 10 |
Erilaz Leg Guards | Isgebind's Heart, Square of Galateia, Cerberus Hide | 25 |
Erilaz Greaves | Isgebind's Heart, Molybdenum Ingot, Cerberus Hide | 20 |

Trade exactly one set: the three materials, or the bayld on its own.

Tips

- If a cutscene ever stalls, type !csfix to get out of it. The step still counts, and Octavernost or the system log tells you where to go next.
- Talking to Octavernost after the quest lists the forging materials again.
