Crafty

guide ยท Server guide

Crafty is the Vanadreams repeat-synthesis addon. You craft a recipe once by hand, and Crafty makes it again for you as many times as you ask, waiting out the cooldown between each one. It also tells you how each synthesis will end while the crystal is still spinning.

Where: the launcher's Addons page. How: tick crafty, press Save, then Play. In game, type /crafty.

The current version is 0.1.4.

Getting started

- Tick crafty on the launcher's Addons page, press Save and log in. Chat says: crafty: loaded. Craft once by hand, then /crafty and press Repeat.
- Stand where you craft, with the crystal and every ingredient in your main inventory.
- Make the recipe once through the game's own crafting menu. Chat says saw you craft ... and names the crystal and ingredients.
- Type /crafty. The window opens.

A first run, step by step

- Craft the recipe once by hand. Crafty remembers it.
- Type /crafty to open the window. Your recipe is in the box under the first line, shown as the crystal and its ingredients (for example Fire Crystal + Lizard Skin, Distilled Water).
- Set the times box to how many synths you want. It starts at 10.
- Press Repeat.
- Crafty waits out the cooldown from your hand synth, then sends the next synthesis. It repeats until the count is reached.
- Watch the line under the buttons: it shows the state (cooldown or synthesizing), how many are done out of the count, and how many seconds until the next one.
- Press Stop (or type /crafty stop) to end it early.

The count is the number of synths Crafty makes, successes and failures together. The synth you did by hand is not part of it. Pressing Repeat again starts a new count from zero.

The window

The window is titled Vanadreams crafting. From the top:

Part | What it shows |
This synth | The result of the synth in progress: Success, HQ or FAIL, shown the moment the synth starts and kept on screen for 20 seconds. |
Recipe box | Every recipe you have crafted by hand, newest first, up to 20. Pick one to repeat it. |
times | How many synths to make. |
Repeat / Stop | Starts the count, or ends it. Repeat turns into Stop while it runs. |
Forget | Removes the picked recipe from the box. It is hidden while Crafty is running. |
State line | cooldown or synthesizing, done out of count, and seconds until the next synth. After a stop it reads Stopped: and the reason. |
Counters | Synths, Success, HQ, Failed, and Free slots. |
Last | The last result, for example the item made, its quantity and its HQ tier. |
Settings | The three settings below. Click to open. |

The window is see-through by default so it can sit beside the crafting menu. The see-through / solid switch in its title bar changes it, and Crafty remembers your choice.

Your recipe box and settings are saved. They are there the next time you log in.

Settings and stop rules

Open Settings in the window:

Setting | Default | What it does |
Seconds between synths | 18 | The wait after each result before the next synth. The lowest it accepts is 15. Crafty adds up to 3 more seconds at random each time. |
Stop at free slots | 1 | Crafty stops when your main inventory has this many free slots or fewer. |
Stop after failures in a row | 8 | Crafty stops after this many failed synths in a row. 0 turns this stop off. |

Crafty stops by itself, and tells you why in chat and in the window, when:

- the count is reached (queue finished);
- the crystal is gone (no <crystal> in your inventory);
- an ingredient is gone (out of <item>);
- your inventory is nearly full (inventory nearly full);
- the server says the recipe is bad (bad recipe), or your skill is too low (skill too low), or you already hold the Rare item it makes (rare item held);
- the failure streak is reached (too many failures in a row);
- no result comes back for a full minute;
- you press Stop or type /crafty stop.

A failed synth still counts toward the count, because the crystal is spent either way. A success resets the failure streak.

Crafty finds each ingredient in your main inventory fresh before every synth, so a stack that runs down moves on to the next stack of the same item. If a recipe uses the same ingredient twice, Crafty takes two from it each time.

The result while the crystal spins

The server decides how a synthesis ends the moment it starts, and the animation carries that answer. Crafty reads it, so This synth says Success, HQ or FAIL right away, and chat prints this synth: ... with it. This works for every synth you do by hand too, whether or not Repeat is running.

A break shows as FAIL. Any high-quality result shows as HQ. When the synth finishes, the Last line gives the item, the quantity and the HQ tier.

Commands

/crafty works without the window as well.

Command | What it does |
/crafty | Opens or closes the window. |
/crafty repeat [count] | Repeats the recipe picked in the window (or the one you last crafted by hand). With no count it uses the times box. |
/crafty add <count> "<crystal>" "<ingredient>" ["<ingredient>" ...] | Queues a recipe by name without crafting it first. |
/crafty list | Shows the queue and how far along each recipe is. |
/crafty clear | Empties the queue. |
/crafty start | Starts on the queue. |
/crafty stop | Stops. |
/crafty delay <seconds> | Sets the seconds between synths. The lowest is 15. |

For /crafty add:

- Put each item name in quotes, exactly as in game: /crafty add 12 "Fire Crystal" "Lizard Skin" "Distilled Water". Item numbers work too.
- List an ingredient twice to use two of it.
- A recipe takes up to eight ingredients.
- Add more than one recipe and they run in order, each to its own count.
- Nothing is sent until you type /crafty start.

The window's Repeat and /crafty repeat replace the queue with the recipe you picked.

What Crafty cannot do

- It only uses your main inventory. Crystals and ingredients in your Mog Wardrobe, Satchel, Sack, Case, Mog Safe or Storage are not seen. Bring them into your bag first.
- It never makes a synth you have not asked for. It sends nothing until you press Repeat or type /crafty start.
- It cannot go faster than the server allows: one synthesis every 15 seconds.
- It repeats the exact crystal and ingredients you used. It does not swap in a different crystal, pick a better recipe, or buy and restock materials.
- It does not change your gear, eat food or move items for you.
- It does not stop at a skill level. It stops on the rules above and on the count.
- It cannot rescue a synth that is interrupted. Taking damage, zoning or moving items during a synthesis loses every ingredient. Stay put while it runs.
- It does not work with a recipe the server says is bad, one your skill cannot attempt, or a Rare item you already hold.

Crafting on Vanadreams

This is what Crafty is working with. All of it is the server's own rules.

The result is set when the synth starts

When you start a synthesis, the server uses your crystal and rolls the whole outcome at once: break, success or HQ. The animation then plays out that answer, which is why Crafty can show it early. Nothing you do while the crystal spins changes it, except the penalties below.

The 15-second wait

The server allows one synthesis every 15 seconds. Starting one sooner gives you must wait longer. Crafty's default of 18 seconds keeps clear of that.

Can you attempt it?

You can attempt a recipe if, in every craft it uses, your skill is within 15 levels of the recipe. Past that, the server cancels it with skill too low.

Break chance

Each craft a recipe uses is checked. "Levels short" is the recipe's level minus your skill level (whole levels, with crafting gear bonuses counted in your favour).

Recipe vs your skill | Chance the synth succeeds (before gear bonuses) |
At or below your skill | 95% |
1 level above | 90% |
2 levels above | 85% |
3 levels above | 80% |
4 levels above | 70% |
5 levels above | 60% |
6 levels above | 50% |
7 levels above | 40% |
8 levels above | 30% |
9 levels above | 20% |
10 levels above | 10% |
