Combat and NM Changes: What's Different in These Fights
guide · Server guide
A batch of fights now play the way they do in the original game. If you farm one of these notorious monsters or are going through one of these battlefields, here is what to expect.
Djinn: Nocturnal Combustion
Djinn (the floating fire-and-shadow elementals in the [S] zones and Abyssea) only use Nocturnal Combustion after something hits them with elemental damage that matches today's Vana'diel day. For example, on Firesday a fire nuke unlocks it. As long as nobody hits them with the day's element, they never use it. This covers the Ignis Djinn, Ellylldan, Stygian Djinn, Helter-skelter, Fulminator, Harum-scarum and the plain Djinn in Batallia Downs [S] and East Ronfaure [S].
Aht Urhgan battlefields
- Puppet in Peril (Jade Sepulcher): Lancelord Gaheel Ja talks during the fight. Each of his moves has its own line, and he complains when his Granite Skin breaks.
- Legacy of the Lost (Talacca Cove): Gessho talks through the fight and calls Kage Doro twice, each time bringing in five clones that vanish after about 20 seconds. He gives up at 25% HP. This now works in all three arenas, not just the first. In the ★ replay he stays silent and gives up at 15%.
- Shield of Diplomacy (Navukgo Execution Chamber): Karababa now appears in the right place in arenas 2 and 3.
Notorious monsters
Monster | Where | What to know |
Balaur | Abyssea - Konschtat | Below 50% HP it switches to its stronger breaths, and after a Blizzard, Thunder or Chaos Breath it may gain matching Ice, Shock or Dread Spikes. Watch out before you melee it. |
Cheese Hoarder Gigiroon | Alzadaal Undersea Ruins | Every so often it runs off and drops Qiqirn Mines behind it. Each one blows up a few seconds later. If you stun it mid-run, it stops and drops all its remaining mines at once, so step back. |
Nepionic Soulflayer | Alzadaal Undersea Ruins | Immortal Shield now blocks spell damage only, and only for a while. Enfeebles still land through it. |
Maa Illmu the Bestower | Castle Oztroja [S] | Casts almost nonstop:5 items: - Protect IV
- Shell IV
- Haste whenever they wear off
- Cure V
- Holy below half HP
Melee doesn't interrupt it, but stun and silence do. Silence lands, but while silenced it attacks very fast. Sleep, gravity, bind and paralyze don't work. |
Suu Xicu the Cantabile | Castle Oztroja [S] | Calls two Duu Nazo at 50% HP and two more at 25%. Army's Paeon gives it a hidden regen that Dispel can't remove. Duu Nazo that are already fighting stay after it dies. |
Vee Ladu the Titterer | Castle Oztroja [S] | Each time it casts Utsusemi: Ni, Jubaku: Ni, Kurayami: Ni or Hojo: Ni it calls copies of itself: one copy above 75% HP, up to four at 25%. The copies are weak, but any still up when it dies use Mijin Gakure. Clear them before the last hit. |
Wheel Wamoura | Halvung | Curled up it takes less physical damage; stretched out it takes less magic damage. It switches about every 45 seconds and stops moving while it changes. |
Flames of Muspelheim | Einherjar | A three-bomb cluster. Each bomb blows itself up in turn as its HP drops (below 66%, 33% and 20%). |
Heithrun | Einherjar | If you kill it, the chamber's armoury crate gives double boss drops and materials and is more likely to hold an abjuration. |
Sarameya | Mount Zhayolm | Every so often it howls. That resets the hate of everyone near it, and it then always uses Ululation, Firaga III (Gates of Hades below 25%), then Magma Hoplon. Non-tanks should move away when it howls. Slow and Elegy never land, and Stun works less each time you use it. |
Dyinyinga | Rolanberry Fields [S] | Gravity, Bind and Break land, but each works less every time. Sleep doesn't work at all. |
Nyzul Isle
The bosses on floors 20, 40, 60 and 80 always drop one random Vigil weapon, like the floor 100 boss. Each boss floor can also drop a rare armor piece for one slot:
Floor | Askar | Denali | Goliard |
20 | Gambieras | Gamashes | Clogs |
40 | Dirs | Kecks | Trews |
60 | Manopolas | Wristbands | Cuffs |
80 | Korazin | Jacket | Saio |
100 | Zucchetto | Bonnet | Chapeau |
Experience points
Experience for monsters above your level now follows the official table. Tougher monsters give more or less experience than before depending on your level bracket.
Job emotes
Job emotes no longer have Magian trials. You already know the emotes for the six base jobs, and you learn each extra job's emote when you unlock that job. The Green Bobble Magian Moogle in Ru'Lude Gardens no longer takes trades for them.
Campaign map and Monstrosity
- The Campaign map now shows the current battle areas and each nation's influence, even when the zones are run by different servers.
- In Monstrosity, you can only use a monster TP move once you have 1000 TP. Instincts unlock correctly as your monster levels up.
Against All Odds (Corsair)
Only the Corsair on the quest needs the Life Float. Up to five friends can come along with no other requirements, and there's no level cap.
