Classic mode

guide · Server guide

Classic mode is a way to play Vanadreams the slow, old-school way. Your level is held at 75 until you finish the content of that era, then at 90, then at 99, and finishing the last list masters your job.

Vanadreams has two modes today: Default, which everyone plays in unless they choose otherwise, and Classic. Moogle Mode, with faster rates, is the third, chosen once at Mog the Merciful.

Classic is set per character and changes nothing for anyone else on the server.

Who to talk to

MiniFerrin, a little automaton who runs the Classic desk. He stands:

- in the Rolanberry bazaar hangout (!hangout), below the Stylist Moogle on the west side of the street;
- outside the Mog House in Southern San d'Oria, Bastok Mines and Windurst Woods, so a new character meets him right away.

His menu: What is Classic mode?, My progress (once you are on Classic), Claim my reward (once there is one), and Turn Classic mode on / off.

Starting

- Put on the job you want to play. That job becomes your Classic job for good. Only it counts toward your progress.
- Every job on the character must be level 30 or lower. If one is higher, MiniFerrin tells you which level and won't start you.
- Talk to MiniFerrin, pick Turn Classic mode on, and confirm "Start Classic as <job>? Permanent."
- You start on Classic 75: your level is limited to 75.

What Classic means for your character

- Level limit: 75, then 90, then 99, as you finish each list below. You play at the limit even if your job is higher.
- Experience: EXP and limit points from monsters, and Records of Eminence EXP, are held to the classic rate: half the standard, the same as the Classic EXP band (Castor's Ring) gives, without wearing it. Quest, mission and Fields/Grounds of Valor page EXP are unchanged.
- Records of Eminence are closed until Classic 99. Records already in your log stay there, frozen: nothing progresses or pays until you reach Classic 99.
- No key-item mounts. Rent a chocobo or ride the one you raised.
- Your party is level synced to you. Anyone who parties with you plays at your level, without the leader setting it. With two Classic players, the lower one sets the level. A battlefield or a confrontation still stops the sync.
- Trusts: the normal rules, no extra limit.
- The limit, the EXP rate and the rest apply to whatever job you wear. Only your Classic job earns progress.

Turning it off

Pick Turn Classic mode off and confirm. Your level limit lifts at once. Everything you earned is kept; turn it back on later and you carry on from where you were, with the same Classic job.

Progress

Pick My progress. MiniFerrin tells you your tier and limit, your Classic job, how many challenges on your list are done, and lists the ones still to do. Do them in any order. When the last one is done, ask him again: your limit rises and you get the next list.

Challenges only count while Classic is on.

The Master reward

When the Classic 99 list is done, MiniFerrin offers Claim my reward. Come back:

- wearing your Classic job,
- at level 99,
- with one free inventory slot.

You receive:

- Your Classic job mastered: its job points are filled, which puts the star over your name and opens Superior Level gear for it.
- Job Breaker and Master Breaker, so Master Levels open.
- Classic Aketon: a body piece, Rare/Ex, +50% experience from defeating monsters.
- Twelve Mog Kupons of your choice, picked one at a time from: AF 119, Relic 119, Mythic 119, Empyrean 119, Aeonic 119 and Abjuration 119. You can pick the same kind more than once. If your bag fills up, come back and MiniFerrin hands over the rest.
