Campaign Battles
guide ยท Server guide
The Crystal War is still being fought in the past. The beastman armies attack allied outposts across the [S] areas, and the allied nations push back to retake ground the beastmen hold. Every battle you join helps decide who controls each area, and that decides how strong your Sigil is.
You need to be enlisted with one of the three allied nations (an allied medal from your nation's Campaign Arbiter) to take part.
Where battles happen
Battles break out in 25 areas of the past, grouped into four fronts:
Front | Beastman army | Areas |
Ronfaure (San d'Oria) | the Orcish Horde | Southern San d'Oria [S], East Ronfaure [S], Jugner Forest [S], Vunkerl Inlet [S], Batallia Downs [S], La Vaule [S], The Eldieme Necropolis [S] |
Gustaberg (Bastok) | the Quadav | Bastok Markets [S], North Gustaberg [S], Grauberg [S], Pashhow Marshlands [S], Rolanberry Fields [S], Beadeaux [S], Crawlers' Nest [S] |
Sarutabaruta (Windurst) | the Yagudo | Windurst Waters [S], West Sarutabaruta [S], Fort Karugo-Narugo [S], Meriphataud Mountains [S], Sauromugue Champaign [S], Castle Oztroja [S], Garlaige Citadel [S] |
Northlands | the Dark Kindred and all three armies | Beaucedine Glacier [S], Xarcabard [S], Castle Zvahl Baileys [S], Castle Zvahl Keep [S] |
- A new battle starts in each area every 45 to 120 minutes. No more than 4 run at once across the world.
- Five minutes before the fighting starts, a warning goes out in the area and in all three capitals.
- Defending: in an area an allied nation holds, the beastmen march on the outpost. Every beastman that reaches the outpost wears down its fortifications.
- Attacking: in an area the beastmen hold, the allied nation with the most influence nearby sends troops to take it back.
- The capitals are attacked only when the beastmen hold an area next to them.
- If nobody shows up, the troops settle the battle among themselves. The result counts for half as much as a battle fought with adventurers.
How a battle works
- The beastmen come in 3 waves, or 4 when their morale is high. Each wave is bigger and stronger than the last. The final wave brings elite troops and a commander.
- More beastmen come when more adventurers are fighting.
- Allied troops of the area's nation fight alongside you. A nation with high morale sends more troops.
- The next wave arrives once two thirds of the current one is down, or after 6 minutes.
- You win when the last wave is defeated. A defense also holds if the beastmen haven't won after 30 minutes.
- You lose a defense if the outpost's fortifications fall to zero. You lose an attack if every allied soldier is defeated, or if 30 minutes pass.
- A win raises your nation's influence in the area, repairs fortifications and lifts morale. A loss does the reverse.
Beastmen in a Campaign battle give no EXP and drop nothing when defeated. Your reward comes from the Arbiter's assessment.
Campaign Arbiters
Every [S] area has a field Campaign Arbiter ("Name, C.A.") at the allied outpost. Talk to them for:
Option | What it does |
Request Allied Tags | Signs you up for the battle in progress. |
Performance assessment | Turns your contribution into EXP and Allied Notes. |
Battle report | Shows which areas are at war right now. |
Union registration | Joins one of the five unions, or leaves your union. |
Deliver my report | Completes a Hawk Eye Campaign Op aimed at this area. |
Return to my nation | Sends you back to your nation's city for free. |
Allied Tags
- Get your tags from the field Arbiter once a battle is under way. They show as the Allied Tags status icon.
- While you carry tags, you lose no EXP if you are knocked out.
- Leaving the area voids your tags. Any contribution you haven't had assessed is lost.
- When the battle ends, everyone still carrying tags is assessed automatically. Winning adds 20% to that assessment.
Contribution and rewards
You earn points for:
- Damaging beastmen. Dealing a beastman's whole HP in damage is worth 1,000 points.
- Defeating beastmen. Each one you finish off adds 100 points.
- Healing other tagged players and troops. Each cure is worth three times its MP cost.
- Enhancing other tagged players and troops. Each buff is worth twice its MP cost plus 10.
- Singing songs. Each song is worth 30 points.
When you're assessed:
- EXP: 2 points for every 5 points you earned. The cap depends on your allied medal: 600 at the first rank, 700 at the second, and 100 more for each rank after that.
- Allied Notes: half of your EXP reward. Notes still come in full if you are under level 10, when Campaign EXP isn't given.
- Your Allied Notes also count toward your nation's evaluation of your service for medal promotions.
Unions
There are five unions: Adder, Bison, Coyote, Dhole and Eland. Register with one at any field Arbiter. If you aren't registered, you fight for a random union each battle, but you can't claim spoils.
- Everything a union's members earn in a battle adds up. Each time a union passes 4,000 points, a coffer of spoils appears near the Arbiter.
- Only registered members of that union can open it, and only if they earned at least 300 points in that battle. Each member takes one share.
- Spoils include Beastmen's Seals, Kindred's Seals, Hi-Potions, Hi-Ethers and crystal clusters.
- Coffers vanish 5 minutes after the battle ends.
Beastman commanders
In one battle in three, a named commander leads the last wave, with its escort, 10 levels above the rest. Defeat it and every union coffer of that battle (those already out and those still to come) holds one extra item for each share, picked from the commander's own list:
Commander | Where | Extra spoils (one at random) |
Di'Dha Adamantfist | Bastok Markets [S], North Gustaberg [S], Pashhow Marshlands [S] | One Byne Bill, Scroll of Cura, Diamond |
Di'Dha Adamantfist | Xarcabard [S] | One Hundred Byne Bill, One Byne Bill, Scroll of Cura, Diamond |
Vuu Puqu the Beguiler | West Sarutabaruta [S], Castle Oztroja [S] | Tukuku Whiteshell, Scroll of Maiden's Virelai, Scroll of Goddess's Hymnus, Dweomer Knife |
Yuu Mjuu the Awakened | Fort Karugo-Narugo [S], Castle Oztroja [S] | Tukuku Whiteshell, Scroll of Esuna, Scroll of Auspice, Scroll of Sacrifice, Dweomer Maul |
Transport to the front
Scarlette (Southern San d'Oria [S]), Narkissa (Bastok Markets [S]) and Wenonah (Windurst Waters [S]) send enlisted soldiers straight to any battle under way.
- 100 Allied Notes to an area your nation holds, 200 to any other area.
- You can only go to areas you have already visited.
- They can't send you into a dungeon: Beadeaux, Castle Oztroja, Castle Zvahl Baileys, Castle Zvahl Keep, Garlaige Citadel, Crawlers' Nest and The Eldieme Necropolis.
Campaign Ops
Your nation's operations officer hands out Campaign Ops: Rasdinice in Southern San d'Oria [S], Hieronymus in Bastok Markets [S], and Emhi Tchaoryo in Windurst Waters [S].
- Each op costs one credit. You hold up to 7 credits and get one back every Vana'diel day (57.6 minutes). With the key item Rhapsody in Mauve you get one back every 10 minutes.
- Higher tiers need a higher medal: tier I is open to everyone, tier II needs rank 5, tier III rank 9, tier IV rank 13 and tier V rank 17.
- You get the EXP as soon as you finish the objective. Report back to the officer for the Allied Notes.
- You can drop an op at any time, but the credit isn't refunded.
Op | Objective | Tiers | Reward range (EXP / Allied Notes) |
Streetsweeper | Defeat 3 / 6 / 10 beastmen in battles on your front | I-III | 60 / 420 to 180 / 660 |
